Do you want to apply for financial aid on Coursera?
This guide is designed by someone who has received financial aid from Coursera. #me!
Finish your application by the end of this article.
Read on!!
This article includes:
1. A sample of my approved application.
2. FAQs and answers.
3. A step-by-step guide.
4. Protips
I would recommend you read this article twice. Firstly, for you to know what it's all about.
Finally, for you to do it while following this guide. (If I click “yes” similarly, you click “yes”)
Alright then, let's begin. (Don't worry, it's not rocket science.)
Step 1: Click on your desired course. ( As an example, I will be applying for financial aid for a software development course in Duke University “Programming Fundamentals”)
Step 2: Scroll down and read through. ( Yeah, yeah, it may be a little lengthy but it's worth it.) Scroll down to the bottom to determine if the course has financial aid.
If it does have, move to step 3. However, if it doesn't, don't despair just check out other similar courses.
Step 3: If you are satisfied with the benefits. Click “Financial aid available.”
Step 4: Click “apply.”
Step 5: Fill in your information details. Nothing hard, just education, employment, and annual income. The best part is: that apart from annual income, you just have to choose between the options. For annual income, you have to type it in and select your currency from the options. If your currency is not an option, convert your currency to an available option.
Step 6: Write a short essay answering the question “reason you applied for aid”
Pro-tip: It doesn’t have to be fancy it just has to be real. Explain your situation honestly. Try your best to get them to see that you are really in need. And lastly, just be you.
My sample.
Ensure your essay is more than or equal to 150 words.
Review your essay and proofread it.
Check the box and click “next”.
Step 7: Answer the question “How much can you pay for your selected course? ”
Once again be truthful #honesty is the key. Don’t be afraid to Select 0.00 if that is your case ( between you and me, that is often my case.)
Step 8: Write a short essay answering the question “How will your selected course help with your goals”
Pro-tip: Be you. Highlight your passion and dreams. Ask yourself- why do I want to enroll in this course? Write the answer to that question in your essay. Explain what knowledge and skills you intend to acquire from the course and how you will apply them. Let them know that you don't think you want this course but you know you want it. Be certain and be specific.
